Beautiful graphics, ripping sound, and lethal squad based gameplay are all standard fair with Rainbow Six Vegas. Add in an addicting multiplayer feature where the player actually gets to evolve his character’s appearance, and PS3 owners are going to see what made Rainbow Six Vegas such a hit on the Xbox 360.
The Darkness – June 25th, 2007
Developed by: Starbreeze AB
Genre: Action
Famous for its presence in the comic book realm, The Darkness is hoping to bring some of the fame and fortune over to its videogame adaption. Gamers step into the shoes of mafia hitman Jackie Estacado who has been gifted (cursed) with super natural powers. Whether Jackie is using his tendrils to grab his enemies, employing his Darkling companions to solve puzzles, or getting close and personal for inhumane brutal fatalities, Jackie and the Darkness are shaping up to be one heck of an experience. The studio who crafted Riddick may have another surprise hit on their hands.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma – July 3rd, 2007
Developed by: Team Ninja
Genre: Third-Person “Kick your ass” Action
Ninja Gaiden Sigma could have been called a “port”, but it is turning out to be so much more. Where other companies have just slapped a new coat of paint on a game, Team Ninja took Ninja Gaiden Sigma back to the drawing board in order to create the best Ninja Gaiden experience yet. In addition to eye bleeding graphics, devastating attacks and relentless enemies, Team Ninja is including a whole new playable character, Rachel (the blonde chick you had to save way too many times). Ninja Gaiden Sigma is giving anyone who doesn’t own a PS3 a very good reason to pick one up.
Lair – July 31st, 2007
Developed by: Factor 5
Genre: Action
From the team that brought us the Rogue Squadron franchise, comes one of their first original IPs in the form of Lair. Not taking a step too far away from where their roots lie, Factor 5 has crafted a flight and land combat game based around those deadly flying creatures known as dragons. Taking the role of an eager new rider, gamers are going to enter a world of political intrigue, dangerous enemies, and awe-inspiring vistas, plus an innovative new flight control system which utilizes the SIXAXIS controller. Whether it is blowing fire at enemy riders, boarding dragons, or smashing and burning your way through legions of land based enemies, Lair is going to give flying freaks a new fix come this summer.
John Woo Presents Stranglehold - August 2007
Developed by: Midway Games
Genre: Third-Person Action
Once you’ve played one third-person action game you’ve played them all. So it’s quite commendable that this latest game from Midway based on the John Woo movie character, Inspector Tequila, from the cult classic, Hollywood-changing action film, Hard Boiled, is turning heads whenever it’s shown. Fully destructible environments, cinematic slow motion, multi-enemy targeting and the ability to run up structures or slide across them all while shooting is making this game an experience in a league all it’s own. Expect numerous John Woo signature moments when this game comes out at the end of the summer.
Heavenly Sword – August 7th, 2007
Developed by: Ninja Theory
Genre: Third-Person-Action
While it was being dubbed “Goddess of War” at E3 last year, no one can doubt that Heavenly Sword has come into its own. Gamers play as Nariko, the red haired female warrior who wields the life draining Heavenly Sword as she battles against the armies of an evil King. Using a three stance combat system, plus a variety of throws and button action sequences Heavenly Sword is crafting a game no one has laid their eyes on before. Complimenting the thrilling combat are the amazing graphics and terribly life like facial animations which have the characters literally coming to life before gamer’s eyes.
