Pandemic has managed to cement their name in the catalog of notable developers. This is due to overwhelming success from titles that just didn’t seem like they would measure up. From Battlefront to Mercenaries, these two games emulated the footsteps of giants such as Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto. While the original Mercenaries was a competent take on the open-world genre of action and exploration, it suffered from lacking character development and an in-depth story. Fast-forward a couple of years, and now Pandemic is back to capture the hearts of the hardcore crowd with Mercenaries 2.

As for the story...Mercenaries isn’t one of those games that’s big on a storytelling backdrop. Instead, players are thrust into Mercs 2: World in Flames as a mercenary for hire, looking to cash in on the conflict in Venezuela. It all starts when a “power hungry tyrant” wants to seize absolute control over all of Venezuela’s oil supplies. As of course, things get heated when outsiders try and prevent the takeover, and soon enough all Hell breaks loose. So guess who gets to have all the fun when a bunch of greedy, power-hungry clients are looking for a merc to carry out their dirty deeds? That’s right! You!
Bring on the mayhem
Mercs 2 is already looking as if it has an unyielding take on the open-ended environments. Added to this, the development company has already verified a smorgasbord of new and updated features for this franchise success. Most notably, this game will be featuring four playable characters (the original three from the first game, and a new character named Eva). What hasn’t been confirmed yet is if Indiana Jones will be making a return in this sequel. Still, the game will allow players to put together a custom team of mercenaries; as there will be the option of meeting mercs within the game world and being able to hire them (like in Jagged Alliance). The game world of Venezuela is also quite large for players to explore. The map will be much bigger than all the stages combined from the last Mercenaries. So players will have a massive game world to explore, and destroy.

The vehicle selection is going to be “huge” according to the developers. Whether there will be as many vehicles as Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause is another question. There will be all sorts and types of vehicles in Mercs 2 such as: luxury cars, military tanks, boats, helicopters, muscle cars, sedans, off-road racers, and even six-wheeled buggies will be available, either to carjack or buy. Like the last game, players will be credited for successfully completing missions for clients. With the money they earn items, weapons, and vehicles can be added to the player’s stash. Players even have the option of customizing the look of their vehicles. However, the extent of the customization feature hasn’t been unveiled yet
