From what we know, the enemy A.I. is supposed to be extremely dynamic and operationally capable of setting up defenses and orientating themselves to your location and progress. Not only that, but EALA has stated that the enemy characters will use “affordance”. Basically, this means that the enemy character will actually survey a scene (viz., which way are the bullets coming from? or which inanimate object provides the best cover at this point in time?) and will make an “intelligent” decision about what it will do. Of course, we have reason to believe that your own counterparts will use the same technology. And unlike other shooters, this one is not “tactical” and will not afford you any commands to your counterparts. Here’s to hoping that your supporting troops don’t play jack in the box with the same Nazi for two agonizing minutes…

In addition to the advanced enemy “affordance” A.I., it is also worthy to note that players will get to customize their weapons. Players won’t get to do this on the outset, though, and will be required to get a proficiency rating with whichever weapon that they may find preferable. For instance: the player enjoys his MP40. Why not? There are plenty of dead Germans to take ammo from. As the player continually uses the MP40, they will get rated (we assume) by their proficiency – as far as accuracy, percent hit, etc – and will be able to modify their weapon. Here’s the catch, though, you have to find the part that you are currently able to modify. Don’t have the part that you are “eligible” to upgrade? Get back to the field soldier, and find that part. Treasure hunting within a first-person, WWII, action game? Hmmm…seems like replay heaven to me!
Overall, it appears that EALA is dishing out one heck of a new game. The graphics look amazing, do not doubt that, and the game engine seems to run really well – by all accounts. This all sounds fine and dandy, but it all comes down to how it will play. And it will this game be just “another World War II game”? The answer will come once we can get our hands on it. Stay tuned to VGCore.com for any news or information, and hopefully, a hands-on experience for Medal of Honor: Airborne when it’s available.
