Late next year, Sierra Entertainment will bring a new heroine onto the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Her name is Rubi...and she's described as a "problem fixer". Sounds pretty general, huh? Let me expound: Her main occupation is that of an assassin/mercenary who gets double-crossed by one of her own clients. A simple job goes wrong and before you know it, she is left for dead. Using her two pistols, a sword and some insane abilities, she begins her journey to find the one who double crossed her, killing just about anyone who gets in her way.

Now if that sounds a lot like Kill Bill, you wouldn't be wrong. From the looks of things, the game borrows heavily from the Quentin Tarantino film, as well as the Hong Kong action genre, and just a dash of a Grindhouse...mmmm, what a sweet mix. Rubi moves as well as she looks, which is to say, damn fine. Using her agility to defeat her most likely heavier armed foes, she can slide on her knees, down a ladder, run on walls and much more, all the while wielding her sword or shooting her dual pistols. Basically, her lower body will move independently from her upper body, which sounds awkward, but looks excellent in practice.

While there will be many ways Rubi can go abouts using her sword, the timing is essential and the difficulty of the kill will be determined by who you are up against. There are two shooting systems employed in Wet. First, you can lock onto a single enemy at a time, and by flicking the right stick, target a second enemy, or go into auto-aim which allows for some free targeting, where the camera will focus on whomever is feeling the heat. All of this, of course, is happening in slo-mo. Many games are using this feature, as can be expected, since it fits in shooters so well.

Aside from the sword and the dual handguns, she also can wield a pair of machine guns and crossbows. As a slight twist, or quirk, Rubi has a phobia...only ammo may be borrowed from the dead, as she can only use her guns, she won't touch anyone elses. This little detail, along with the rest of the plot that is being written by Duppy Demetrius (one of the writers for 24), should give players quality story-telling and plot twists galore.

With some slick story telling and even slicker moves, Wet could be pretty huge. The game is not set for a release until late 2008; so that means that the game is nowhere near complete, but for now we can anticipate games that fit the same mold, like the newly released Stranglehold. Stay tuned to VGCore.com as we update news on Wet.
